For the name, I think that, if you had isolated the tree against the sky by itself, the picture would look a lot better, in my opinion. I do like the way you shot it here though, I like how you got the roots off the ground. I think the shadows need to be a little bit brighter, but not by much.

I have to agree with you... The "lonely pine" isn't that lonely actually, with its leftmost branches confused with the pine in the background.

Still, this tree has so much personnality that he compensates for that not-so perfect framing ;)

Wow! This is so beautiful and interesting! He looks like he's going to fall over, but he's got his roots deep in the soil :)

I did not dare push him to see if it was well rooted, though - Limestone is quite prone to erosion, yet those bristlecone pines fight it fiercely - and with some success given the (very) old age they can reach ;)

Awesomeness in black and white.
The trunk of this tree is amazing in and of itself. I wonder what it went though
to become twisted like that.

Thanks a lot.

I guess this tree went through centuries of fighting erosion, harsh winters and stormy winds at Bryce Canyon.

Its life mightbe tough, but it sure helps its photogeny :-)

Thanks for letting me know how Bryce Canyon is. It helps
tell the story of the tree. And though it has a tough life
it made an excellent subject for your photograph.
